Nara Smith was craving a minty lip, so she did what she’s famous for: She whipped up something from scratch. But rest assured—this recipe is fast and easy to make. Though Smith’s 10 million TikTok followers regularly watch her make everything from homemade bubblegum to sunscreen, “I don’t spend seven hours in the kitchen every single day,” she says. Herewith, the honey-voiced influencer walks Vogue through her 34-step beauty routine. (Which, for the record, includes store-bought SPF today.)
Growing up in Germany, the 23-year-old watched her mother make various concoctions. “This was one of the easier ones,” Smith says, holding up two bowls filled with pantry staples to create an exfoliating lip balm. The model mixes a dash of coconut oil with a smidge of honey and a spoonful of brown sugar. Next, she adds a touch of seasonal flavor.
“In the wintertime, I get obsessed with anything that smells like peppermint, so we’re going to do peppermint essential oil,” she says, adding a few drops to her mixture. Smith uses a finger to apply the balm to her lips, then sloughs it off with a washcloth to reveal the supple results. “My lips are so soft,” she says. To further feed her peppermint craving, Smith pauses for a sip of mint tea, then tops her pout with a coat of Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Candy Cane.
Moisture has always been a priority for Smith, and not just for her lips. “The earliest memory I have of taking care of my skin is probably my mom slathering me in Vaseline and telling me that if I don’t do that, my skin is going to just be dry, and I won’t look good,” she laughs. “So that’s what I do now, every night.”
By day, she has a decidedly Frencher hack for hydration. “This product is my holy grail,” she says, holding up a tube of Chanel Baume Essentiel in Transparent. “It just makes you look dewy and sweaty, but in the best way ever.”
