Matty Healy tells fans to ‘separate the anti-semitism’ from ‘hero’ Kanye West | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Matty Healy landed in some hot water online after a clip of The 1975’s recent show went viral on TikTok – with the singer sharing some controversial views on the even more controversial rapper Kanye West.

Since his divorce from Kim Kardashian, the 46-year-old has been steeped in criticism for his well-publicized rants and speeches sharing his opinions on a number of topics online, some of which even got him briefly banned from social media platforms.

A few anti-Semitic remarks proved to be the last straw for many fans as they turned completely against the rapper, who now also goes by Ye.

However, it appears the Grammy Award winner still has some celebrity supporters as Matty dubbed him his “hero” during a show.

In a clip that has now gone viral, largely with negative reactions from viewers, the 34-year-old can be seen projected on the venue’s screens as he spoke into the microphone with some peculiar clips of Subway Surfer and ASMR videos playing alongside him.

Matty, who is no stranger to sparking controversy on stage, shared: “You know what, I’m not being self-celebratory, but Kanye is one of my heroes.

“You’ve got to f**king believe in yourself.”

As some boos rose up from the crowd, the singer giggled and admitted: “That’s an awkward hero to have right now, I understand that.

“But separate the anti-Semitism. Just think about the self-belief.”

Matty briefly paused his monologue to tell the unsettled crowd to “shush” and pleaded with them: “Literally, tell me one band in the past four years that could do what we’re going to do in the next three minutes.”

The brief speech sparked a frenzy online as many slated the singer not just for his choice of hero, saying: “‘Separate the antisemitism’ is a wild way to start a sentence.”

Another viewer on X declared: “‘Separate the antisemitism’. We won’t be doing such thing.”

A third joked: “His shows are so boring they gotta put subway surfers on the side to keep them watching.”

Some brought up the rumored relationship between Matty and Taylor Swift that was short-lived earlier this year, saying: “Mind you we wouldn’t have known him if he never dated Taylor.”

Another joked that because of the relationship landing Matty in headlines across the globe: “Everything i’ve learned about matty healy as been against my will.”

However, the Somebody Else hitmaker did have some supporters in the comments who agreed with him, as one wrote: “Artistically Kanye is up there, I don’t care about his ideologies or personal life or even politics.”

A second claimed: “All these replies just show how nobody gets Matty Healy lol I love it.”

A third advised the singer on a potentially less volatile way to share his thoughts: “An indomitable self-belief is admirable, sure, but maybe let’s not skip over the antisemitism, eh? Keep it clean, keep it respectful, folks. No hero is without flaws.”

Daily Express has contacted Matty Healy’s representatives for comment.
