How to Get Lily Gladstone’s Cannes Glow

Fresh off of the Met Gala carpet, actor Lily Gladstone hasn’t stopped. As of earlier this week, she’s in the South of France for the next month, serving as a jury member at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival. For the event’s opening night, which included a very starry red carpet, only one inspiration would do: “South of France old Hollywood glamour,” shares her hairstylist Marc Mena. Her makeup artist, Nick Barose, adds that he kept “the makeup soft and fresh with a bit of the ’70s touch to play off the dress.”

The beachside city of Cannes is notoriously humid—and with rain on the weather report, Mena had to prep. “It’s hard to fight humidity, which is why we didn’t fight it,” Mena says. “Instead, we did a look that humidity would only add to.” He started by prepping her hair with a trio of products from Better Not Younger (a volumizing mousse, thickening spray, and heat protectant) before blow drying with a round brush then further setting the curl with an iron. Oh, and lot’s of hairspray, too.

Barose’s beauty focused on the eyes, which included a gorgeous brow-bone reflection. It’s the “the perfect shimmery ivory color,” he says of Indigenous-owned Cheekbone Beauty’s Fearless Eyeshadow Pencil in Honey Calcite. Gladstone’s lashes were finished off with a shimmery navy mascara from Le Rouge Français. “The contrast between the light ivory color and the deep sea blue mascara makes brown eyes pop without having to smoke it out too much.”
