Bunnings flags new Bluey Hammerbarn stock as limited edition gnomes resold online for thousands

In the famous “Hammerbarn” episode, Bluey laments, “I can’t be happy with what I’ve got when what she has is better”.

Online resellers of limited edition merchandise based on the episode might be hoping prospective buyers have a similar attitude.

Listings selling Bluey products from Bunnings have emerged on sites including Facebook Marketplace and eBay — advertised for hundreds of dollars more than the original price.

The products were originally sold during a promotional collaboration when some Bunnings stores were rebranded as Hammerbarn.

Garden gnomes, affectionately referred to by fans as “husbands”, sold for $19 each in store. They are going for between $100 and $200 each in some listings seen by 7NEWS.com.au.

Another seller is offering four gnomes plus other items for $10,000. It had not attracted any bids as of Tuesday morning.

The porcelain pooches have flown off the shelves and are sold out online, although some shoppers have reported stock trickling in at stores in the past week.

Such is their popularity, stores have limited how many people can buy.

In condemning the re-sellers, Bunnings has revealed new Bluey stock could soon be on the shelves.

Bunnings has moved to reassure customers they might not have to fork out a fortune to get a gnome, saying new Bluey stock is set to arrive in coming days.

“The popularity of our Bluey product range has exceeded our expectations, and we’re sorry to hear some customers have missed out on buying a garden gnome,” the retailer’s merchandise director Jen Tucker told 7NEWS.com.au.

“We’re working hard to get more gnomes to our six Australian stores that have been transformed into Hammerbarns and expect them to arrive later this week, ready for customers to purchase over the weekend.

“We’re incredibly disappointed to see a small number of people re-selling Bluey products online at inflated prices, and we don’t support this behaviour in any way.”

Six Bunnings stores across the country were temporarily renamed Hammerbarn, including in Keperra in Brisbane, which is the store that the Bluey episode is inspired by.

Exterior signage at Bunnings stores in Cannington in WA, Blacktown (NSW), Glenorchy (Tasmania), Carrum Downs (Vic) and Munno Para (SA) was also changed to match the fictional chains.

The Australian-made animated series centres around a cartoon pup and the Heelers, a charming family of anthropomorphic dogs, and has been a global sensation since hitting screens in 2018.
