‘Barbie’ Movie Soundtrack Drops With Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Ryan Gosling

The Barbie movie will give us absolutely no shortage of bops this summer, and I, for one, am here for it! On May 25, Atlantic Records announced the artists featured on the film’s accompanying soundtrack, Barbie the Album, and the lineup is just as star-studded as the cast itself.

The v on-brand announcement featured the movie’s lead star Margot Robbie wearing a multicolored scarf with bright-pink oversized sunglasses as she gazes down at a Barbie-themed newspaper that reveals the names of the artists included in the project.

Just some of the familiar voices you’ll be hearing when the album drops on July 21? Lizzo, Ice Spice, Nicki Minaj, Khalid, Karol G, Haim, Dominic Fike, Charli XCX, Ava Max, Gayle, the Kid Laroi, Tame Impala, PinkPantheress, and more ~mystery~ unknown artists (though now we know one of those is Billie Eilish, whose song for the album, “What Was I Made For?” made an absolute splash when it dropped on July 13 ). TL;DR: The soundtrack—which was executive produced by Mark Ronson—truly has something for everyone.

But in the unlikely event that all these names ^^ fail to get you excited, we’re thrilled to report that Ryan Gosling, who plays the Just Ken to Margot’s Barbie, will also be featured in the project, in addition to Dua Lipa, who is a part of the film’s supporting cast. And Dua’s song “Dance the Night” is already out!!

News of Barbie the Album’s release came as Margot was revealed as Vogue’s July 2023 issue cover star a few months back, in celebration of “The Summer of Barbie.” In her interview, the actor actually revealed that her lead role was initially slated for Gal Gadot, who had been director Greta Gerwig’s (and Margot’s) first choice to portray the iconic character due to her “Barbie energy.”

“Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful because she’s so genuinely sincere and she’s so enthusiastically kind that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork,” Margot said. But the Wonder Woman actor reportedly couldn’t commit to the role at the time, so Margot stepped in. The more you know!

BRB, texting every one of my friends to ask them if I exude “Barbie energy.”
