What would you make of the Prime Minister’s speech?
Our prime minister has now started making such amazing aspirational speeches. One, of course, he talked about the approach to doing good. Business should not only be for bottom line, business should look beyond itself, business should look at the human factor and as a business we should also focus on benefit of consumers. The other thing he spoke about was how do we enhance and build sustainability into the DNA of the world, that in all decisions, all actions, sustainability should become a norm rather than something that we have to make a special effort for.
He also mentioned two important things. First of all, he mentioned that India can be a solution provider to global supply chain problems, also he said that in rare earth and those materials there is a new form of colonisation that can come. How do you see these two important mentions by PM today?
Yes, one was clear that the global supply chains need to be more robust, more resilient, more flexible and India can be a key player in helping do that and we are showing early signs of that happening in any case. Second thing he said was there are some countries which are endowed with special materials, things like rare earths, etc, that they must not become protective only of those, that they must be used as a general public good for the benefit of humanity rather than only a country. Otherwise, it could in a sense blow back on them.
